Can Online Therapy Really Work?
Yes. Research consistently shows that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. The quality of the therapeutic relationship matters more than the medium through which it is delivered.
It is a reasonable question. Many people worry that a screen will create distance, or that something will be lost without being in the same room. In practice, most clients find that online therapy feels natural within the first few sessions. You are still talking to a real person, in real time, with full eye contact and emotional attunement. Online therapy also has practical advantages. You can attend from anywhere in the UK, in a space that feels comfortable and familiar. There is no commute, no waiting room, and no need to rearrange your day around travel. For people dealing with trauma, the ability to be in their own space can actually feel safer than sitting in an unfamiliar office. All my sessions are held via Google Meet. It is simple to use, requires no downloads, and provides a secure, private connection. If your internet drops, we can continue by telephone as a backup. Online therapy is not suitable for everyone , if you are in active crisis or require face-to-face clinical assessment, I will help you find appropriate local support. But for the vast majority of clients, it works just as well as being in the same room.
If you are curious about online therapy but not sure if it is right for you, book a free introductory call and experience the video format for yourself.
