Is Therapy Confidential?
Yes. All sessions are confidential in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. Confidentiality can only be broken where there is a risk of serious harm to you or others, or where disclosure is required by law , for example, in relation to safeguarding, terrorism, or money laundering.
Confidentiality is fundamental to therapy. What you say in session stays between us. I do not share information with your GP, your employer, your family, or anyone else without your explicit consent, except in the limited circumstances described above. I attend regular supervision as part of my professional practice. In supervision, I discuss my clinical work to ensure I am supporting you effectively. Your identity is protected , I do not share your name or identifying details with my supervisor. Sessions are not recorded. My contract explicitly states that recording is not permitted by either party. Notes are kept to a minimum and stored securely in an encrypted folder. You have the right to request your records at any time.
If you have questions about how confidentiality works in practice, a free introductory call is a good place to ask.
