What Happens in a First Therapy Session?

Your first session is an initial assessment lasting up to 90 minutes. We will talk about what has brought you to therapy, your background, and what you are hoping to get from the process. I will carry out a risk assessment. There is no obligation to continue afterward.

Before the initial assessment, we will have had a short introductory call , a free, 15-minute conversation to make sure therapy with me is a good fit. If we decide to go ahead, I will send you a contract by email covering confidentiality, fees, cancellation, and boundaries. The initial assessment itself is not a test. It is a conversation. I will ask about your personal history, your family background, your current situation, and what has prompted you to seek therapy now. You do not need to prepare or have everything figured out. Many people arrive saying "I do not know where to start" , and that is completely normal. I will also carry out a risk assessment. This is standard practice in therapy and is about making sure I can support you safely. It is not a judgement. The session takes place on Google Meet. You will receive a link by email. All you need is a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. After the assessment, we will talk about whether ongoing therapy feels right. If it does, regular sessions are 50 minutes, once a week, at the same time each week. The initial assessment costs £90. Ongoing sessions are £70.
