Scope of Practice

Every therapist has a defined scope of practice , the areas they are trained and experienced to work in. This page explains what falls within my scope and what does not.

I offer therapy in English, French, German, Persian (Farsi), and Spanish. For full details on session structure and approach, see How I Work. What Falls Outside My Scope There are some areas that fall outside my training and competence, and where I would refer you to a more appropriate professional: - Psychiatric assessment or diagnosis
  • Medication prescription or management
  • Couples or family therapy
  • Therapy for children or young people under 18
  • Forensic assessment or court reporting
  • Addiction or substance misuse as the primary presenting issue
  • Active psychosis or severe and enduring mental illness requiring specialist psychiatric input If your needs fall outside my scope, I will do my best to help you find an appropriate professional or service. I will never continue working with you in an area where I am not competent to do so. Referral and Signposting If during the course of our work it becomes clear that you need support outside my scope, I will discuss this with you openly. This might mean: - Suggesting you speak to your GP
  • Recommending a specialist service or therapist
  • Working alongside another professional with your consent This is not a reflection of the severity of your difficulties , it is about ensuring you get the right support from the right person. Professional Accountability I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework, which requires me to work within my competence at all times. My scope of practice is regularly reviewed through clinical supervision.
